- Sometimes when the people were scarce of milk they used to put oaten meal in a crock and put (in a) water in it and when it was sour they used to drink the foam off the top of it. This was called sowens. People used to sit round a basket in the middle of the floor. This basket was full of potatoes and in the middle of the basket there was a plate with bacon(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
