  1. The people in this District on St Stephen's go round with the wren, in batches of about nine or ten boys, and grown - ups. They dress in old clothes and false - faces. They sometimes turn their coats inside out, and wear hats with feathers in them. When the day is over, they divide the money equally among them. They bring violins and melodeons and different musical instruments with them. Some of them dance while others play. Long ago they used to dress in straw and feathers and polish their faces black.
