In olden times the old people had prayers which they said on certain occasions. Some of them have been handed down by word of mouth through the generations. Here is one that my mother taught to us.
O Angel of God my guardian dear,
To whom His love commits me here,
Ever this night be at my side,
To light, to guard, to rule, to guide.
    Infant Jesus, meek and mild,
Look on me a little child,
    Pity mine and pity me,
And suffer us to come to Thee.
There are four corners on my bed,
    There are four Angels overhead,
    Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
God bless the bed that I lie on.
This prayer should be said when lying down at night.
Many other prayers are said but here is another short aspiration that should be said any time
