- Shops were common in olden times. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Buying and selling is carried on after Mass. The articles that are sold in this way, are, tobbacco, tea, sugar, bacon loaves, etc.
Money was given for goods, labour was given in exchange for goods. Those words are connected with buying and selling "Boot" "tick" "change"
When two articles or animals are exchanged the person who gets the least valuable gets something else also which is called "boot".
Buying goods without paying for them immediately is called getting them on "tick".
People think it unlucky (for) to transact business on Sunday. A shilling is called a "bob" sixpence is called a "tanner". A pound is called a "Quid".- Bailitheoir
