- The bread that was used in olden times was mostly potato-cake, and oaten bread. The bread was made from wheat and oats, that was grown locally. The flour was always made locally.
The different kinds of bread used in olden times, were, potato cake, boxty bread, oaten bread. The ingredients that were used, were, flour, soda and salt, which were kneaded with water. The people used to make bread every day.
People used to cut a cross on the top of the cake, to bake it inside. The name of the vessel the bread was baked in was called a pot-oven. Oaten bread was baked before the fire. Griddle bread was made also.- Bailitheoir
