  1. Another very cheap rug can be made from smooth jute sacking. Cut the sacking into strips about 4 inches wide. Ravel one edge until a fringe of about 3 inches remains. Get a piece of sacking as large as the required rug. Sew the strips as prepared, close enough to allow only the fringe to be seen. Cover the whole foundation in this way working crosswise. Then add a strong lining and bind the edges.
    The stuff is usually dyed before starting to work, all of one shade. This rug looks quite nice, and lasts a long time, and will keep the feet as comfortable as a dearer one.
