   Both women and men favour knitted pull-overs, cardigans &c. some sleeveless, some not. They are often worn over the waist-coat in Winter, and without a waist-coat in Summer.

   These are often done by hand in the long winter nights. They look very nice and wear for years.

   Often they are knit by ladies who have knitting machines, the machine work is always plain, a pattern could not be done on it. So all who can, hand-knit these garments, and very nicely they look.

   Scarves are also made by the women.

   The ladies this year had knitted suits. They did the Cardigan part at home and had the skirts done by machine. With crocheted to match which looked fetching. The total outfit in some cases only costing about £1.

   The same style of suit in a ready-made woven stuff would cost over £3. Almost all garments worn by children are hand-knitted also. Mrs. armstrong charges 3/6 for a plain jumper, 4/6 for a shaped or [?] janey [?] neck, [?] done on a machine [?].
