Long ago there were few doctors in Ireland and the people depended on their own remedies to cure diseases. The following is a list of ailments and their cures.
1. Mumps: A winkers was put on the patient and he was driven around the pigsty three times saying the following, "Pigs, pigs, mumps, mumps take away these watery lumps".
2. Sty: Nine thorn were pointed to the patient's eye for nine days and then the ninth one was thrown away
3. Hunch: A straw was tied around the patient's neck or tied around the crook
