Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The local fair is held in Belturbet and Cavan. It is held on the first Thursday of each month. Ash Wednesday is the annual horse fair. The fair green is the end of the town. Here all the cows, store cattle and calves. Pigs are sold on the street. Every person who brings a cart of pigs into the fair has to pay one shilling. A man is appointed by the town-Council to collect the money. There be four or five dealers in every fair. When they are buying an animal. First the dealer asks the owner of the beast, how much does he want for it. The owner says "What will you give me". The owner asks a price usually more than the animal is worth. The dealer bids him near the value, still he refuses to sell. A third man generally comes along and says "what is between ye". The seller tells him, he then asks them to divide it. The two agree, and then the deal is finished. When the seller receives the money he gives two or three shillings back to the dealer for luck. The dealer then puts a mark on the animal's back with a "keel". The animal is then put in a yard. Each dealer knows his own mark. He collects his cattle and has them
