- There is a holy well near Brackley Lake and it is called Thober, or St. Patrick's well. There is a cure for the toothache in the water of the well. When making the cure for the toothache the water must be rubbed to the tooth three times '' in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost Amen '' Then seven paterandavies '' must be said in honour of St. Patrick. In olden times the people used to make stations at it.
When making the stations they used crosses made of rushes and they walked around the well on their knees, with the sun, three times. The well was once at the edge of the lake but it is thought the man that who owned the land in which the well was, interfered with it and it moved across the ditch away from the lake. He was a protestant man and he did not want to have the people walking on his land.- Bailitheoir
