- There are potatoes grown at my home. There is over an acre of ground planted with potatoes, each year. The farmer prepares the ground. The potatoes are set in ridges. The people spread manure first, then they put seed on top of the manure, and cover the seed with soil.
The farmer usually uses a spade for putting the soil on the seed, spades are bought in shops.
The seed potatoes have to be cut if they are too large to set. Each part must have an 'eye' or two 'eyes' in it. If there is no 'eye' it will not grow.
Some of the old people living in cottages help farmers to cut the seed.
