- If a straight-edge be placed on the Map from Ferns, in Co Wexford to Rathnew in the present Co. of Wicklow it will indicate almost exactly the route taken by travellers in ancient times in passing from Dublin ( Baile Átha Cliath ) to Wexford ( Hy Cinsellaigh )" Dermod's Castle " in the Parish of Dunganstown, about three miles from Rathnew, the ivy covered ruins of which still remain, gives us a landmark on this ancient highway, ( one of the great highways leading to Tara ). Local tradition states that Dermod Mac Murrough brought the wife of the O'Rourke, Prince of Breffeni to this castle and that she lived here for some time. Old people of the district also say that there is an underground passage leading from the castle to the seashore.Kilbride ( Cille-Bride ), Kilpatrick ( Cille Pádraigh ) , Toberpatrick ( Tobar-Padraigh ), Baaindarrigh ( Bearna Dearraigh ), Kilmagig ( Cille-Mháigh-Gaoithe ), Balanagh ( Beal Anaigh ) are place names of interest on this almost forgotten route, which kept to the high ground and avoided the low-lying vallies and glens.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
