- The landlord of this district was Lord Fitzwilliam. Their place of abode in Ireland was at Coolattin, near Shillelagh. They had estates at Wentworth, England too and spent only part of the time here. Their house and its surroundings were counted the nicest in County Wicklow. This landlord was very popular with all his tenants. He gave great employment to the people in the districts of Shillelagh, Tinahely, Carnew, Coolboy and his descendants are fairly good also. He owned all the land from Coolattin to Rathdrum.
Men were employed cutting timber and planting. He was not hard on his tenants and he often let the rent run for years. Hundreds of small houses were built on the hills and beside the bogs.
The family were very generous to the poor and used to give out flannel and warm clothing.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
