  1. Old Cures
    For boils it was usual to get a dock leaf and rub the boil with it. Then bury the leaf. When the leaf withered the boil was cured.
    Poulticing - a roasted potato dipped in buttermilk was used as a poultice.
    Stings - When a person got a sting of a nettle, he got a dock lead and rubbed the affected part with it saying "Dock, dock, take the sting away: if you don't I will give you a slap in the face".
    To cure a choking cow - Put a think lath or stick in the animals mouth; tie a rope round her horns and to each end of the stick. This will prevent her from swallowing.
    Erysipelas - flour and whiskey mixed will cure this complaint.
