On Stephen's Day the "Wren Boys" go round. They are boys dressed up with masks and carrying a holly bush with some rags to represent the wren. They go from door to door collecting money.

Being the last day before lent this is a great day for parties. People eat pancakes in which they have put a ring, a sixpenny bit and a button.
On May day the people dress up a bush and light candles and call it a May bush. When the candles are burnt out the bush is set afire - it is usually a gorse bush.
