- There was a poet who lived here in Trooperstown named "Mr. John. Lawlor". He was a native of this place he was about sixty-six years old when he died, and he is buried in Glendalough.He composed many songs there is one song he composed (was) about "Jamas Brown" who was killed one night by thunder and lightning on the Laragh road and if you were going through Annamoe to Glendalough there is a tomb-stone in the side of the ditch in memory of Jamas. Brown." Mr. Lawlor composed all the songs himself.My father Edward McHugh told me this story on the 15.2.1938.
