The houses long ago were diffent from the houses we have now. The roofs were thatched with straw, the people had oats and they threshed it with a flail. There were very small windows in the houses, the floors were made with clay and sometimes stone flags. Every houses had a bed in the kitchen and it was called a settlebed, it was used as a bed at night and as a seat by day. The fire place was in the gable end of the house, the fire was on the hearth.
