  1. Hidden Treasure
    A very long time ago, there lived in Annacarney where Jack White lives now, a man by the name of Thomas Cullen. This man was called one night by someone, whom he did not know. This man told him that he was hiding three barrels of gold, in the Old Chapels, and that he would lose his life (if) he let anyone raise it. Thomas told no one except his sister Ann, who kept it a secret. There lived in Carrigacurra at the same time three brothers named Mc Governs. These suspected where the gold was hidden. One night they decided to go and dig for the gold. They were not sure where it was, so they got shovels and sounded the ground, by beating them against the earth. When they came to the spot where the gold was hidden they heard an echo. Then they said that this should be the place where the gold was hidden. They then began to dig, but when they began a storm arose around them and around Tommy's house. According to the tradition there was a life to be lost at the rising of the money, so in order to save the life of a person, they seized a cock which was near them, and brought it with them. The storm arose to high, that Tommy suspected, that someone was at the money and every shovelful, they would throw out of the hole the wind would blow it back in, (.) a(A)t last they gave up (...next page)
