Tournant is my townland and it is in the Parish of Dunlavin and the barony of Talbotstown. The population of my townland is not very large, the number of families residing there being six. The townland of Tournant, Lower and Upper adjoin that of Dunlavin to the South. In Lower Tournant is a small hill covered by a Rath. It is now locally known as the Moat of Tournant and is a landmark in the Neighbourhood. The Rath consists of a dún and a well defined circumvallation. It has been much damaged by the opening of sand pits on the East and West sides. The dun rises 25 feet above the base line of the outer mound and measures 300 feet on the summit. This is a remarkable fortification both in situation and appearance it is not a tumulus. Slightly to the North East of the mound runs a high undulating ridge which on is
