  1. The people ate fish three times in the week, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. At that time fish was very cheap and easily got so when they went to buy it they bought a cwt. of fish. Sometimes they ate herring and trout. They also got vegetables and they boiled cabbage and fish and turnips together. Sometimes they boiled young nettles in the month of March and they ate them for they believed that if they ate them, they would not have any sickness during the year that they ate them. They ate their supper between eight and nine o'clock at night. Before Easter they used to gather the eggs for Easter Sunday and each one of them would eat three eggs on that day. Tea came first to this district about one hundred years ago. When it came out an ounce of tea did a family for a week. Noggins came out before cups became common. The noggins were shaped like a mug with two handles out of it.
