  1. Gibbet Hill is a hill between te parish of Clonegal and the parish of Kilrush. In the Penal Times the yeomen put a Gibbet on the summit of that hill They used to hang the Catholics on this Gibbet or scaffold and leave them hanging there for a long time. They did this so the Catholics going to Mass could see them from all the country round and be afraid to go to Mass.
