- There are two or three lime-kilns in Drumderry. In olden times in these lime-kilns all the lime was manufactured for the surrounding districts. The land was ploughed up and special lime-stone or pebbles were picked up and put into cars and carted to the lime-kilns. They also brought Irish hard coal and piled the lime-stone and coal in in layers. They put them in the eye of the kiln and they then set fire to the whole lot and it burned down by degrees. The coal would burn down until it was dust. The lime-stone would burn and form lime. The workmen of these kilns would have to remain at the kiln night and day while it was burning. Then they would draw the lime away as soon as it was burned.
