Shops were not as common as they are now. After mass on sundays people were acoustomed to do their shopping. As a working man at the time earned only 1/2 a week. People did not always buy for money. Some people gave eggs, vegtables, or poultry, others gave potatoes, oats, turf or timber. While in some cases labour was given as payment.
Sunday and Friday were supposed to be unlucky days to buy or sell.
It was usual to see men go round from house to house buying rags, feathers & rabbit skins. They gave money in exchange for the goods.
