Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Marriages generally take place before Lent each year, although some people prefer getting married in June or August or September. May is supposed to be an unlucky month for marriage. Wednesday is the favourite day of the week for marriage. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are thought unlucky. On the day of the wedding the parties go to the church for the ceremony, and then they come back to the bride's home for breakfast and there is generally some dancing and singing. In some districts on the night of the wedding, a party of masked men, locally known as "collicks" pays a visit to the house, and causes great amusement. They always get some tea and other refreshments. They wear a funny dress and change their voices. This is more usual with the poorer classes.
    When the newly married people are coming to their home the husband carries the bride across the threshold of their new home.
