- About sixty years ago a man lived in Borris by the name of Kavanagh. He was called the Cripple Kavanagh because he had no legs or arms. He was an M.P for Carlow and he used to go to London to the House of Parliament. He was a grandfather to the late Major Arthur Mc Murrough Kavanagh of Borris. Although he was a cripple with no legs or arms, he was able to ride a horse. The way he used to ride was a basket was strapped around the horse and he sat in it.
A man called a valet was always going around with him, and he opened all the gates for him to go through. He was able to write with his half arms, he put the pen in between them and started writing. He had false arms for eating, and he was a great marksman and a fisherman. Many people saw him write and fish. He was a great painter and his paintings were famous. He was a great man, and very wealthy.
