    Candle making
Long ago when candles could not be bought, candle-making was carried on in this district, by the people in every house.
First of all they got bog rushes and left them up the chimney until they were well dried out. Then they used to peel the skin off of them. All the skin was not removed as a narrow strip was left on one side of the rush to keep it from breaking.
They then dipped them in grease and then they used to hang them up the chimney again until the grease was dried into them. Then they used to dip them in grease and again they would then leave them up the chimney for four or five days
