- Christmas Eve
(1) On Christmas Eve the house is cleaned and decorated with holly and ivy.
(2) On Christmas Eve night big Christmas candles are left lighted in every window to tell the Holy Family that they are welcome to shelter in every house.
(3) The door is also left open and two empty chairs are left by fire to show the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph that they are welcome into any house, and that they will not be refused shelter as they were on the first Christmas Eve, in Bethlehem.
(4) An empty cradle is also left by the fire, so that the Blessed Virgin Mary may put the little Infant Jesus in it.
(5) A yule log is brought in and put on the fire to burn, so that the Holy Family may warm the Infant Jesus.
(6) The children all hang up their stockings on Christmas Eve for Santa Claus to put something in them,
