- Beside the River Shannon,
My fine potatoes grow.
A cabin thatched with rushes
Keeps out the rain and snow.
I work away contented
In Winter as in Spring.
And when I grow aweary.
I ope my mouth and sing. But that, you know is seldom
For oh, there's lots to do -
There's hoeing, sowing, reaping
When skies are grew or blue
The turf within the bogland
I gather for the fire
The donkey brings it homeward
And never seems to tire. We've sometimes trout for supper
For I've a little boat
And in the silver Shannon
I drop a line and float.
When greedy fish are biting
I land them on the grass(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
