- There is no particular period of the year in which marriages take place in this district but there is usually a greater rush before Lent and Advent.
The months of May and August are considered unlucky for marriage. An old saying is "married in an early ". People usually get married here on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday as they look upon Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses and Saturday no day at all. Very few matches are made in this district except the farming classes and in these cases money is usually given as a dowry to the Bride.
It is usual for the parties to get married with the Nuptial Mass before eight o'clock in the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
