   (1) One evening as my grandfather set out walking and to our surprise he returned home later than usual. He went for the ass which was on the hill, taking with him a lantern in his hand. He left down the lamp and it was taken. Then a voice from the bushes said "who are you"? "If you tell me your name, I will give you back the lamp". Then my grandfather said "I will not tell you my name". After a few minutes a shot was heard and a bullet came by my grandfather's head. He returned that night and afterwards went to bed and a few weeks after he died.

2. Fairy Forts

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There is a fairy fort about half a mile from where I live. The old people always say the fairies live in those forts. They are supposed to have hidden a lot of money in them. No one ever tried to unearth the money because the rath is supposed to be haunted.
   The old people would not let anyone go near it or dig for treasure because the fairies might take them. There is often noise heard at the rath such as the barking of dogs and the mewing of cats.
