- Poem called Margarine
By the late Seán Etchingham'Twas the first day of October in the glorious year '16,
That I first became acquainted with that stuff called margarine,
High up on the heights of Dartmoor in my lonely prison cell,
Where they carried me from Ireland because I did rebel.11
They were running round the breakfast, aye
breakfast so they said,
A pint of pasty porridge with a lump of blackish bread,
When in a tin like Poll Burke's snuff box to my
great surprise I seen,
A little bit of yellow grease 'twas labelled Margarine.111
I couldnt ask the warder he was going at such a pace,
The serving of the meals in jail was like a desperate race,
And if you dont leave your little stool in time to reach the door,
You'll find your stave off hunger stuff all strewed upon the floor1111
Well I felt it and I smelt it and I turned it with care,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
