When the young boys are short of money to buy the shop marbles they go down on the railway line where there is a marl-hole on the bank. They dig a small hole and get a quantity of the yellow mud which is called yellow marl. This they roll between their hands until it is a number of small balls and lay them aside to dry in the sun. Afterwards when these are dry they are ready for use.
