- Cromwell landed in Wexford at Maudlintown which was at that time the entrance to Wexford. There was a man named Stafford who sold the town to Cromwell. Cromwell knocked down several churches in Wexford. He knocked down St Patrick's Church in St Patrick's Square. He knocked down another at Selskar Abbey. He used the Wexford Franciscan Church as a stable for his horses, He gave one of his officers the deeds of the place where the Wexford Laundry now stands. One day a poor woman was going up the Laundry Lane with a churn of butter-milk when she was met by the officer who got the deeds. He asked her what was in the churn.
