- There is a Holy Well out in Coolstuff. It is called St Mary's Well. It is in a field at the back of the churchyard. The people used to drink the water to cure headaches and toothaches and a Protestant gentleman who lived there heard of this and he went and polluted the well to show his unbelief. The well dried up and disappeared for years but lately a spring appeared again, a small piece away from the original well. Some of the old people go there to cure their ailments. My Aunt Katie went there and got her toothache cured. It is in the land, and the field in which it is, is called the Church meadow.
