- The Wexford Dockyard. When the Danes came into Wexford thy started the shipbuilding industry.
A Dane named Kaat had a shipbuilding industry in a place which is now called "Cat Strand" but which really is Kaat's Strand.
It was the Danes who started the shipbuilding industry and up to a few years ago there was a dockyard in Wexford.
There is a meat factory where it was now.
The dockyard was for sailing vessels only and when the steamers came it had to close down as it could not cope with the steamers requirements.
The dockyard was beside a railway line and it had a slip to let the new boats which were built into the water.Written by Nora Boyce, Age 14
