- Another ancient game was "Kat" or Cat, it is played still in school.
Two circles are drawn about five yards apart.
Two boys stand at each ring, one boy at each circle has a stick in his hand.
Another boy has "Kat" in his hand. The kat is a small thick piece of wood. They toss a penny to see who shall pitch "Kat".
The boy who wins toss, pitches "Kat" to opposite boy, who tries to hit "Kat". If cat is not hit it is pitched back to boy in other ring, who also tries to hit it.
The game is to 51. When Kat is hit, boys (who have sticks) must run from one ring to the other till Kat is got (one or other of two boys search for Kat). The longer the "Kat" is out, the more points for boys with sticks.
If Kat is pitched into ring, two boys with sticks are out and other and other two take their places.- Faisnéiseoir
