It is said that when Our Lord was being followed by the soldiers that He lay down to rest and as the soldiers were drawing near the curlew's cries awakened Him and he said that her nest would never be found by the enemy and it never was. The robin got its red breast from the drops of blood which dropped from Our Lords head when he picked the thorns out of the crown of thorns.
