They would then slay the guardian thus sworn, on the very spot where the treasure was hidden; so that the blood of the victim would fall on the concealed treasure.This was part of the enchantment, their spirits would then assume the shape of a huge dog or hound or some other ferocious animal, and hold watch and ward on the treasure until its owners would relieve them.
