  1. In the castle of (Boley?), there was supposed to be buried under its walls a crock of gold. It was put there by the Normans. Several attempts have been made to locate the hidden treasure, but without success.
The Normans put it there about the year fifteen hundred and fifty. The Normans were supposed to have buried gold in many other places in the parish of Tintern as well as (Boley?).
Why they buried the gold is not known. Some say that when they had money plundered they buried it but when they had buried it they were often killed, and then the money remained there.
The last man that tried to get it, knocked the castle down trying to find the crock of gold.
His name was Jack Byrne. He is not living now, for he died forty years ago. He had a small bottle of Holy Water and a ball of woollen thread. These are used by people who are looking for buried money. He tied the thread to a (?), and then around the place where the treasure was buried, and the holy water was sprinkled on it to keep away the spirits.
When he had three walls knocked down he heard great rattling of chains which he thought was a bull. It was then after midnight. He had courage, but this frightened him.
He went home and he never went to dig for for it after that night
