- A few years ago the dash churn was in common use in the country.
The dash was made of wood a long handle with a circular piece of wood at one end.
A person held the staff and dashed it up and down the circular end set the milk in motion.
This was continued until the butter appeared on the milk. Then the would wash the butter and put it into a cool.
They would keep it six months hid in the bog and it would be as fresh as the day it was made.
Then the would bring the cool of butter to the market and the would sell it @£5 per cool.
