Ar an leathanach seo
- In olden times cattle and pig fairs were held at cross-roads, men would gather the cattle and congregate at the cross-roads and ask a big price for whatever animal they are selling.
The buyer would offer so much and the seller come down a little each time then they would spit on their hands and clap then to clinch the bargain.
Then the purchaser would mark the animal with tar to show it had been sold.
In Ballinasloe once every year during the March fair the boys and girls met to be hired.
They called this the hiring fair. In other parts of the country on the fair days young men and women met together to choose a partner.
