scintillating columns, pillars of fire and were hurled across the sky winging their way for mighty Slieve Bawn
For the whole night the winds and the flames held carnival and as the day dawned heaps of cinders - red hot glowing masses - marked the spot which for centuries was the peaceful abode of the priest - the teacher- the doctor - the chemist all united in complying with the rule of the order and with no other object in view but their own salvation and the uplifting of the people whose good fortune it was to have those pious anchorites in the midst whose motto was "Learn the luxury of doing good."
That night when the conflagration was at its highest there was feasting and revelling in this Rathcline Castle and toasts were drunk to the success of the evenings undertaking - the expulsion of monks through the burning of the monastery. The lord of Rathcline and his minions have done their work well and left no loophold for the "come back" of his unwelcome neighbours but also he little knows how the whirling of time brings its own revenge.
