  1. There was a man by the name John Duffy who lived in Dernacranna and a strange incident happened to him on harvest evening as he was finishing off a few lumps of hay. Just coming on to night not quite dark at the time. He was working near the Black Lough along the side of a river which runs between Firmula and Dernacranna Lough. As he was about to go home he heard alot of shouting and it seemed to him as if an animal was in a hole. It was not bright enough at the time to see the exact place. He thought it was only a short distance, in fact, a few meadows away. So he crossed the river and went as quickly as he could as the shouting was kept up very strong
