  1. One May morning Francis Reilly was going to the fair of Granard. In the fields above Purth crossroads a woman was working worsted thread on the bohelans of the fields saying "come all to me" Francis said "come half to me".
    When he was coming home from the fair he went into the field and lifted the thread. There was a knot on every foot of it. He put it in his pocket. He went to churn the next morning and had the thread in his pocket. He never found till he could not turn the dash in the churn as the butter was too thick.
    He thought of the thread in his pocket. He took it out and put it in the fire. The knots began to crack; the devils began to hop out. They broke every plate on the dresser. Only for he got it out
