  1. Long ago people threshed in the kitchen if they had not a suitable barn. All the furniture that could be moved were taken out of the kitchen. The delph was taken off the dresser and stored in another part of the house. No fire was in the kitchen while the threshing was in progress.
    The cooking was done on a fire in the room.
    Old quilts and sheets were hung across the fireplace.
    A flail was used for threshing. The flail consisted of two sticks. One stick was four feet long and the other two and a half. The two sticks were tied together by a strong cord called a tug.
    Men were very particular about having a good tug when
