- In olden times the people only ate three meals in the day. They were breakfast, dinner and supper. The breakfast was eaten at about nine o'clock in the morning, the dinner at twelve and the supper at six. The people worked in the morning before they had their breakfast. They ate porridge for their breakfast, potatoes, butter and buttermilk for their dinner and porridge for their supper. Tables were hung up against the wall when not in use. They mixed oatmeal with water and a pinch of salt, flattened it out and baked it on a griddle before the fire. This was called oatcake. They didn't eat much meat, they ate it at Christmas and when they went to fairs they brought(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
