  1. Michael Prunty who lived in the townland of Leitrim and parish of Clongesh had a terrible experience one night when returning from Newtownforbes towards his own home.
    At the corner of the graveyard he sometimes used to meet a sweetheart and on this occasion just as he turned the corner named he saw a woman coming towards him. He said to himself "This must be my girl." but at the same time he noticed an extraordinary blackness about her. Her head was covered with a shawl.
    He went towards her, and put his arms around her, but was horrified to find that she was icy-cold and that he was unable to withdraw his arms.
    She threw her terrible weight against him and knocked him on the roadside and fell on the top of him. They rolled over and over on the ground; he all the time trying to extricate himself.
    At last he thought his arms had lost all power and he fainted. When he awoke or recovered consciousness she was nowhere to be seen. He struggled to his feet, and from that to his home a distance of two miles he felt as if there were a half
