- In olden times the people had three
meals a day namely breakfast dinner and supper. This consisted of porridge. They had dinner at twelve o'clock and this consisted of oatmeal gruel and salt eaten with potatoes and for their supper they had oatmeal gruel and salt eaten with porridge Some people who could afford it had for supper cold boiled bacon on oatbread taken with a cup of sweet milk
Others had rye bread or porridge cake which was made from porridge that remained after supper mixed with flour and indian meal Sometimes boxty was eaten. This was made by grating the potatoes and mixing flour and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
