- In the townland of Cashel Beg there are the ruins of an Old forge. In Old times there was a man working in it whose name was Frank Fallon. As you pass that road to Lanesboro you can see the ruins there yet. In former times all the people of his district used to go to get their horses shod. My father always used to go to get his horses shod. It was a small thatched house and he used to get it thatched every year. There was one chimney on it and a door.
Frank Fallons great Grandfather started the trade about a hundred years ago. He died suddenly one day shoeing a horse. The anvil and several other tools are there to be seen yet.
His other sons never learned the trade because they were not big enough to teach it to them. He also used to make ploughs, gates and shod wheels.- Bailitheoir
