I My name is Patrick Hester near Longford I was born. My Parents reared me honestly I bore no man any scorn. In honesty I laboured in Littleton for years When I think of old acquaintance it causes me to shed tears. II The evidence against me was that in October '97 That I shot Bernard Keegan, may his poor soul rest in Heaven. That I watched him from behind a ditch alone as he did pass. And with the gun I took his life returning home from mass. III And when I done this awful deed to a neighbours house I ran. And in among some hay and straw I safely hid the gun. And afraid I'd be arrested I returned back in haste. And once again I took the gun and hid it in its place.
